Silk Ribbon Embroidery
These workshops combine silk ribbon embroidery with freestyle surface embroidery using a variety of threads to produce dimensional effects – raised work. Students are introduced to silk ribbon stitches and techniques in the production of a finished piece which can be later mounted/ framed or incorporated as a panel into other work. Day workshops follow one of the following themes:-
• Bouquet or Flower Patch
• Rose garland or Heart of Roses

• Christmas Garland, Swag or Parcel
• Garden

These workshops explore bead embroidery as decorative surface embellishment. Perfect for those addicted to beads requiring excuses to use them.
• ‘Beadventurous’ – brooch, pendant or sampler
• ‘Beadventurous 2’ – further explorations

A collection of workshops focussing on a specific area of the gentle, slow and totally addictive art of bead weaving.
• Humbugs and trimmings
• Individual stitches – brick, peyote, square, netting etc.
• Daisy chains

• Necklaces
• Amulet purses (2 or 3 day workshop)

• “Initially” – An entire project. Design and stitch using initials to create a wall panel, hanging or book cover (2 or 3 day workshop)
• Greetings from … -Hand made cards are lovely to make and receive. This workshop explores hand stitching on a variety of constructed grounds (bonding, foiling, colouring etc.). It is a great opportunity to learn how to make and use different surfaces for stitch. Hand and/ or machine stitching is used to finish work most suitable for several greeting cards.
• Make your Mark - A morning of design and afternoon of stitch working from a chosen source (photo, sketch, motif, selected image) using mark making as a design tool and stitch method. Discover the huge potential in this simple approach
. Can be offered as a two day workshop (day 1 - design, day 2 - stitch).
• ‘Button It’ –Many of us have a button collection. New, old, spare and used we are compelled to keep them perhaps due to fond memories from youth of button tins and boxes. This workshop explores the creative use of buttons as decorative embellishment when combined with stitch. The work produced can be finished in a variety of ways providing new homes for those collections.
• Contemporary Sampler – Hand stitching is the sole focus of this workshop. Students will explore the potential of stitch to create line, texture and pattern with freestyle surface embroidery. Work may be used for reference for future projects and may also be mounted, framed or used later as a panel. This day is a good excuse to use some of those beautiful threads purchased and as yet only admired ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Design Days
• Extract the Essence – Working from a chosen source (selected image/ photograph) through a series of drawing experiments using mixed media to reveal and express the essence of the subject matter
• In Your Element – a series of day schools that may be booked individually – exploring a specific design element* from a chosen source/ subject matter using a variety of design methods, techniques and media – *Line, Texture, Tone, Colour, Pattern, Shape etc. |
